The BPL is clearly open to everyone because it is the Boston PUBLIC Library, whereas the Antheaeum is strictly for members. Although they seem different, both libraries try to appeal to people who are searching for entertainment other than just books, through their cafes, art exhibits, concerts, and wifi.

The Athenaeum has a bigger collection than the BPL. The BPL seems to be more open to the common person, while the Athenaeum seems more upscale and meant for upper class enjoyment. Much more of the literature would most likely be in digital form, with the older texts kept in a much more secure location, with specific conditions.
