The BPL is clearly open to everyone because it is the Boston PUBLIC Library, whereas the Antheaeum is strictly for members. The Athenaeum has a bigger collection than the BPL. The BPL seems to be more open to the common person, while the Athenaeum seems more upscale and meant for upper class enjoyment. Much more of the literature would most likely be in digital form, with the older texts kept in a much more secure location, with specific conditions.
